Google takes over Bitspin, the minds behind the best designed clock app for Android

iOS may have a reputation for having the best designed apps across all platforms, but Android has caught up drastically in the last couple of years. One of the best examples of this would be Timely, a beautiful timekeeping app for Android that could rival the best designed apps for even iOS. It is developed by Bitspin, a startup by some computer science grads from ETH Zurich. Now, Bitspin has announced that it has been acquired by Google with immediate effect. Read on to know more about the latest Google acquisition.
Here’s what Bitspin had to say about its acquisition by Google:
“We’re thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we’ll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.
For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.”
The relevant question to be asked here is, where does this leave the Timely app itself for its end users? Google has a history of shutting down the products and services made by the startups it hires (Bump was only just shuttered last month, while the Sparrow mail app was hugely popular among iOS users but has been in limbo for the last year and a half).
For the time being, all of Timely’s paid features (which included backgrounds and multi device syncing) have gone free for all Android users. Get it from Google Play here.
