Refurbished Samsung Galaxy S 4 being sold by AT&T at $29.99: Is it worth a try?

AT&T has started selling ‘Certified Like New’ (read: refurbished) versions of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 today. Available at a bargain basement price of just $29.99 on a two year contract, AT&T is selling these refurbished Samsung Galaxy phones on the internet only, as of now. Read on below the break to know more.
It has to be said that for all of the ‘inspiration’ that Samsung has gotten from Apple (in terms of both software, hardware, and even retail store designs!), the Korean giant has somehow ended up skipping out on what is a fairly money spinning endeavor by Apple. That is, Apple makes truckloads of money by selling its industry leading phones, tablets and music players, but it also knows how to squeeze in more money by selling refurbished versions of its products. On the other hand, Samsung seems to have ignored that additional revenue stream entirely in all its years competing in precisely the same markets as the iPhones, iPads, and iPods.
AT&T’s refurbished S 4’s are only available in 2 colors – black and white. Although the idea of having just two color options, along with buying what is essentially not a new phone, may put people off this offer right away, it’s certainly worth a shot. A brand new Galaxy S 4 retails at a whopping $199.99 on a 2 year contract on most carriers, and saving an extra $170 as a compromise for getting the very best Android phone out there right now may seem to be a fair exchange to a lot of people after all.
