Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google edition now available on Google Play Store

Last month, in its I/O 2013 event, Google had announced its plans to bring the two current Android smartphone flagships from Samsung and HTC – the Galaxy S 4 and One, respectively. The three tech majors have finally gone ahead and brought the two vanilla Android powered smartphones to the world, and now you can get the Google editions of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 (and HTC One) from the Play Store right away. Read on to know more about them!

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Edition will be available for US customers (at least as of now) from the Google Play Store for a price of $649. The primary advantage of getting a phone with stock Android is that there will be no redundant TouchWiz-like UI customizations from Samsung to bog down the Android user experience. Moreover, there should be none of the usual issues of slow, Samsung-dependent OS updates for this edition of the phone (although that is dependent on the kernel of the phone as well, and remains to be seen).

The hardware in the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Edition is otherwise identical to the usual Galaxy S 4. There’s the same stunning 5 inch 1920 x 1080 Super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU, 13 MP camera, LTE compatibility, 16 GB external storage (albeit with roughly half of it user accessible), 2 GB RAM, a 2600 mAh battery, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and a whole lot more.
