In what is the latest event in what has been an extraordinarily ‘active’ (pun fully intended) stretch of time in terms of the announcements for its latest batch of smartphones and tablets, Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active. The Galaxy S 4 Active is a rugged, all weather variant of the flagship Galaxy S 4 smartphone. Like the Sony Xperia Z smartphone, it is fully waterproof and dustproof, and can take a fair share of beating and rough use from the looks of it. The Galaxy S 4 Active may have one of the toughest exteriors for a phone you’ll ever get, but it is no different from the full-fledged flagship Galaxy S 4 in any other way. Any other way but one minor difference that is, as the Galaxy S 4 Active has a be a 8MP shooter, rather than the 13 MP one in the Galaxy S 4. As for the rest, like the S 4, the S 4 Active will have a 5 inch, full HD TFT display, a 1.9 Ghz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU, with Android 4.2.2 and Samsung’s trademark Touchwiz UI.
Despite a rather lengthy press release, Samsung failed to mention any sort of release schedule for the Galaxy S 4 Active. However, the rumor mills point to a July 1st launch date in the United Kingdom, and one can assume that it will hit this side of the pond shortly after that.
