A new study from leading analytics firm Chitika Insights has revealed that after the launch of iOS version 6.1.1, iOS 6 users made up a whopping 83.1 % of all the web traffic that originated from Apple mobile (iOS powered) devices based in North America.
"As seen in the graph above, iOS 6.1.1 accounts for 1.4% of all North American iOS impressions slightly 24 hours following its debut. While the new operating system's limited scope of release narrows its impact on overall iOS distribution, all iOS 6 users (which include iOS 6.0, 6.1, and 6.1.1) now command 83.1% of all iOS Web traffic continentally." - Chitika
Chitika Insights uses ad impressions obtained from the Chitika Ad Network which got hits from devices such as the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. The data used in these findings was obtained over the course of 24 hours on the 12th of February this year.
The high usage rates of iOS 6 clearly indicate that the problem of fragmentation that plagues Android phones and tablets globally is still a non issue for Apple devices, despite the Cupertino company having had branched out to multiple sizes of tablets (the iPad and the iPad Mini), and phones (the 4 inch iPhone 5, as opposed to the 3.5 inch iPhones before it). Not even half of Android users globally use either Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean, and that is a shocker considering that Ice Cream Sandwich has been in the market for nearly a couple of years now. For all of the brickbats that Android fans give Apple, the fact that Apple manages to keep almost all of its devices' software up to date (for the most part) is quite a feat.
