Apple has revealed in a press release that the number of downloads done in the App Store have crossed 40 billion. In case that figure isn't incredible enough for you, here's something that is a definite jaw dropper - almost half of the total number of downloads have occurred in just 2012.
The increasing popularity of Apple products, along with a spurt of new devices launched this year (two iPads, 1 iPhone, 1 iPad Mini, and an iPod Touch, among others), have quite clearly brought in a lot of new customers into the iOS fold. Moreover, with the large audience, sheer organization and lack of piracy in the App Store, compared to Google Play (among others), developers are flocking to the App Store in droves, and a lot of them have been making some absolutely brilliant number of apps that have invariably contributed to an even larger ecosystem for Apple.
“It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.”
Apple went on to praise apps such as Temple Run and Flipboard for their success in the App Store. With the demand for Apple devices increasing day in day out, the App Store may just move from strength to strength.
