There were rumors of this happening over the course of the past week but there was no confirmation from Microsoft. However, the Windows Phone Blog has now confirmed that they are delaying the much awaited launch of the update for Windows Phone 7 handsets scheduled for the second week of March. This update which would have enabled copy-paste on these handsets along with some other features would need to wait till Microsoft ensures that it will go through smoothly. It was just a few days ago that Microsoft had issued an update to WP7 handsets that would “prepare” them for this major update. It was however riddled with reports of some phones being bricked – especially some Samsung branded WP7 handsets which were particularly affected.
It seems Microsoft wants to play safe this time and wants to ensure that nothing goes wrong when the major update is issued soon. This, even at the cost of delaying the update by a few weeks. This we think is a good idea.
That said, the blog also confirms that the delay of this particular update would not affect the arrival of the other major updates scheduled later this year. At the MWC in February, Microsoft had confirmed that apart from the copy paste update, WP7 handsets would also get a new IE version and the ability to multi task later in 2011.
